Moving into a new apartment in a new city often involves the challenge of finding good-quality, affordable furniture that fits personal aesthetics and supports sustainable living. Current platforms lack the integration of these needs, making the process time-consuming and cumbersome for users seeking both convenience and eco-friendly options.
The Mercury app addresses this gap by offering a platform where users can easily find and purchase high-quality, pre-owned furniture tailored to their preferences. By incorporating advanced search filters for location, style, and price, and enabling real-time updates and social features, the app streamlines the furniture sourcing process. This not only supports sustainable living but also provides a seamless, personalized experience for movers, making it easier to furnish their new homes with stylish, eco-friendly options.
User Research: I conducted surveys and interviews with movers to understand their challenges, needs for quality furniture, and interest in sustainable living. Key insights highlighted the desire for convenient access to stylish, affordable furniture.
Competitive Analysis: I analyzed platforms like Airbnb, Craigslist, and OfferUp with my Professor to identify strengths and gaps in existing furniture marketplaces.
Problem Definition: Identified the need for an app that connects movers with high-quality, pre-owned furniture, emphasizing sustainability and aesthetics.
Brainstorming Sessions: Collaborated with designers and developers to generate ideas. Created detailed user personas and journey maps to visualize the ideal user experience.
Wireframes: Developed low-fidelity wireframes focusing on a user-friendly interface that facilitates easy search and filtering.
High-Fidelity Prototypes: Created polished prototypes with feedback from usability tests, ensuring the design is visually appealing and easy to navigate.
Usability Testing: Conducted multiple rounds of testing to refine the app’s features, such as search filters, booking processes, and user reviews.
Enhanced User Experience:
Personalized Recommendations: Implemented suggestions based on user preferences and past interactions, ensuring a tailored experience.
Interactive Features: Added social sharing and messaging to foster user engagement and make it easier to coordinate pickups and deliveries.
Design Handoff: Worked closely with my professor to ensure accurate implementation of the design. Addressed any technical and design issues promptly.
The Mercury project being a capstone project for my Design Final, was not produced. However, this project demonstrates my ability to lead a user-centered design process, from initial research to final implementation, creating a platform that addresses real user needs. This project highlights my skills in UX design, user research, and cross-functional collaboration, resulting in an app that promotes sustainability and enhances the moving experience by offering convenient access to high-quality, pre-owned furniture
