Overview
For parents, school transportation is more than logistics; it’s trust. Yet, many families at MTN had no way of knowing whether their child’s van was delayed, if the driver had changed, or how consistent the service was week to week. Conversations often happened through phone calls or paperwork after the fact, leaving parents stressed and disconnected from the daily realities of their child’s commute. For parents, school transportation is more than logistics; it’s about trust. However, many families at MTN had no way of knowing whether their child’s van was delayed, if the driver had changed, or how consistent the service was from week to week. Conversations often happened through phone calls or paperwork after the fact, leaving parents stressed and disconnected from their child’s daily commute.
MTN Live was my response: a digital dashboard concept designed to create transparency between parents, schools, and the company. Instead of chasing information, families could finally see the journey unfold in real time, with clear data that put peace of mind first.

The Problem
The experience of school transportation had become reactive. Parents would often wait at pickup spots uncertain if a van was running late, or they would receive paperwork days later with little context. The lack of visibility bred mistrust and made families feel disconnected from the service. For parents of younger children, in particular, the absence of real-time updates created unnecessary anxiety.
The Solution
I set out to design MTN Live as a bridge between the van, the school, and the family home. The system gives parents the ability to see where a van is at any moment, understand if it’s running behind, and quickly view who is driving their child that day. Beyond the trip itself, the dashboard offers simple summaries of attendance, punctuality, and recent activity, making trends easy to grasp at a glance. By presenting information in clear and accessible ways, parents no longer need to rely on guesswork or phone calls.

Design Systems
The design system for MTN Live is parent-first: typography that feels familiar, colors that signal urgency without noise, and components that communicate information. By grounding the system in consistency, parents can navigate confidently, knowing that updates about their child’s safety are always legible and reliable.

Typography
Sans serif font with three weights to create information hierarchy, modern clarity, and legibility across devices. Parents are the primary users, so type styles are needed to feel approachable while maintaining authority.
Color guide
The palette relies on a neutral foundation of black, white, and gray, with limited but strategic accent use: Primary Accent (Blue): Highlights active states and status indicators (e.g., weather icons, route lines). The backgrounds are kept minimal (black or white) to prioritize legibility and accessibility.

Components
The design system emphasizes reusable, scalable components to ensure consistency across web and mobile. Using left-side persistent navigation on desktop, simplified bottom nav on mobile. Includes clear icon + label pairing for ease of use. Built on a flexible grid with consistent padding and modular scaling.
The system uses a modular 12-column grid on desktop and a 4-column grid on mobile. Spacing tokens (8px, 16px, 32px) enforce rhythm and hierarchy across layouts. Consistent alignment allows cards, charts, and maps to rearrange responsively without breaking the overall flow.
Outcome
The design system for MTN Live is parent-first: typography that feels familiar, colors that signal urgency without noise, and components that communicate information. By grounding the system in consistency, parents can navigate confidently, knowing that updates about their child’s safety are always legible and reliable.
